A leading Spanish economist has hailed Vietnam’s development as interesting.

Nicolas Sartorius, who is visiting Vietnam at the invitation of the United Nations Development Programme, singled out Vietnam’s reform policy at a recent meeting.

He held that “the European Union (EU) and Spain in particular should give priority to Vietnam and help Vietnam gain more success.”

“Vietnam has been successful with its policy of befriending other nations in the world for peace and development,” he remarked, adding that Vietnam will contribute to peace in the world after the nation was elected to the UN Security Council.

Mr Sartorius said Vietnam should modernise the economy and build a good social welfare system for sustainable national development.

He suggested Vietnam promote administrative reform and strongly combat corruption to attract more foreign investment.
