Many mountainous communes in Yen Bai still isolated

VOV.VN - By July 23, many routes leading to mountainous communes in Van Chan district, Yen Bai province had still been cut off by prolonged floods and severe landslides while electricity and communications systems remained disconnected.

An Luong, Nam Muoi and Sung Do communes in the hardest hit district of Van Chan remain isolated. Local authorities have given initial support to families having dead and missing members and ensured social safety for the isolated people.

Functional forces find it very difficult to provide relief to people in Sung Do, Nam Muoi and Suoi Quyen communes. An Luong commune remains inaccessible.

In Nam Muoi commune, 20 landslides occurred on the roads and 54 houses collapsed or were swept away.

Excavators and trucks have been mobilized to clear mud and stones caused by severe landslides on the intercommunal road linking Muoi hamlet to the above said communes.

Thousands of cubic metres of mud, stones, debris and trees fall on the route to Nam Muoi commune.

The route to Lang Co hamlet is in the same situation and is inaccessible by vehicles.

According to Dang Thi Nhi, a local from Lang Co hamlet, is almost isolated by landslides.

Locals risk their lives to go out to buy essential things and food.

Yen Bai is the hardest-flood hit province with 29 people killed, missing and injured, more than 3,870 houses damaged and estimated economic losses of about VND200 billion.
