Top Vietnamese legislator meets with Thai House Speaker

VOV.VN - National Assembly (NA) Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue held a meeting with Speaker of the House of Representatives of Thailand Wan Muhamad Noor Matha on August 7 on the occasion of attending of the 44th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA-44) in Jakarta.

At the meeting, NA Chairman Hue congratulated Speaker Matha on being approved as the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Thailand and expressed hope that in his new position, the Speaker would continue to contribute to strengthening both nations’ relations.

NA Chairman Hue affirmed Vietnamese recognition of the great importance to boosting the wide-ranging and substantive strategic partnership with Thailand.

The two leaders were therefore glad to see that the sound friendship and co-operation between the two countries has been continuously consolidated and developed.

Most notably, economic co-operation has been further boosted, with Thailand becoming the Vietnamese side’s largest trading partner in ASEAN and the second largest investor in the regional bloc.

This year will see the two countries celebrate the 10th anniversary of their strategic partnership, the Vietnamese NA leader suggested that competent agencies strengthen co-ordination and accelerate the implementation of the "Three Connections" initiative. This includes supply chain connection; economic, business, and local connection; and a sustainable growth strategy connection with the aim of striving to soon achieve the bilateral trade target of US$25 billion in the time to come.

NA Chairman Hue asked the Thai parliament to continue to create favourable conditions for the Vietnamese community in the host nation, whilst supporting the development of Vietnamese culture in Thailand, duly serving as a basis to strongly promote people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.

In response, Speaker Matha congratulated the Vietnamese side on its socio-economic development achievements, applauding the contribution of the Vietnamese community in Thailand to Thai society and the friendship between the two nations.

He assured that both Thai legislature and the Government stands ready to continue to create favourable conditions for the Vietnamese community to both live and work in Thailand.

The two sides also agreed that the two legislative bodies should seek to increase the exchange of high-level delegations at all levels, whilst augmenting co-operation between the specialised agencies of the two parliaments.

As part of the occasion, the Vietnamese NA leader requested that the Philippine parliament send a delegation to the ninth Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians which will be held in Hanoi.

NA Chairman Hue cordially Speaker Matha to visit Vietnam at an appropriate time. The invitation was duly accepted and he confirmed that he will do so in the near future.
