Vietnamese and Cambodian authorities met in Phnom Penh on February 26 to discuss construction of an expressway linking Vietnam’s southern Can Tho city and Cambodia’s capital city of Phnom Penh will be built to facilitate economic development in both cities.

The future 230km highway, which is 35m wide with eight lanes, will cost an estimated US$20 million per km in the form of BOT (Build-Operate-Transform). It will have 110km running on Vietnamese land from Can Tho city via An Giang province to Phnom Penh.

The Vietnamese government has approved the construction of the section on Vietnamese territory.

Cambodian Secretary of State Tram Iv Tek said this large project is important to his country’s socio-economic development so it will be submitted soon to the Prime Minister for consideration.
