Vice President Andrew Drysadale of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) handed over its official member symbol to Vietnam Airlines at a ceremony in Hanoi on February 28.

To become an IATA official member, Vietnam Airlines had to surpass the association's stern safety appraisal as well as meeting hundreds of requirements on organisation and management, air and on-land services, and cargo transport.

Addressing the ceremony, CEO and General Director of Vietnam Airlines Nguyen Sy Hung committed to cooperating with IATA and other airlines in the region and the world to strive for more efficiency in air transport for the sake of passengers.

Mr Hung said the membership would not only bring the airlines commercial benefits but also help to show its international status as well as its services.
