NA Chairman receives senior Cuban legislator in Hanoi

Hue said Acosta’s visit takes place at a time when the special traditional relationship between Vietnam and Cuba is developing positively. The two sides have maintained high-level contact and exchanges in recent times, including the Cuba visit in September 2021 by President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and the Vietnam visit in October 2022 by Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz, helping to create momentum for bilateral relations, especially economic cooperation.

Vietnam protests and demands the west lift its embargo against Cuba, Hue told his guest, adding Vietnam supports Cuba’s economic cooperation and hopes the Caribbean state will soon overcome difficulties.

He welcomed the results of talks between Homero Acosta Álvarez and Bui Van Cuong, general secretary and chairman of the Vietnam National Assembly, that were held earlier on the same day focusing on directions to promote cooperation between the two offices of their legislatures.

The National Assembly of Vietnam and its head will do their best to constantly cultivate, consolidate and strengthen the exemplary and faithful relationship between the two Parties, States, National Assemblies, Governments and peoples of Vietnam and Cuba, he assured his guest.

For his part, Acosta emphasized that the Cuban people always admire the Vietnamese people in their cause of national construction and defense. He highly appreciated the reform process in Vietnam under the leadership of the Communist Party that has yielded important results over the years.

The Cuban legislator highly valued Vietnam’s rising position in the international arena, and expressed hope it would support Cuba more in the future.

Both host and guest agreed that Vietnam and Cuba should organize practical activities in 2023 when the two sides will mark 50 years of President Fidel Castro’s visit to the newly-liberated region in central Quang Tri province.
