76-year-old COVID-19 patient dies in Vietnam

VOV.VN - A 76-year-old man hailing from Lang Son province has died of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, said the Ministry of Health on June 1 evening.

The patient tested positive on May 7 and was immediately transferred to the Hanoi-based National Hospital for Tropical Diseases for medical surveillance and treatment.

During the treatment process, he displayed high temperatures, shortness of breath and increased respiratory failure.

He then relied on mechanical ventilation, dialysis and the extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) to sustain life.

On May 31 the patient still had continued pulmonary bleeding and increased multi-organ failure. Despite doctors’ efforts, he passed away on the evening of the same day.

This is the 13th COVID-19 death Vietnam has recorded during the current fourth COVID-19 wave, and the 48th since last year.
