Corruption prevention and control under review

Addressing the event, Deputy Chief Inspector Tran Duc Luong said that building the national report on the implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption for international assessment is a significant political task for Vietnam’s relevant agencies in 2011.

This is an opportunity to widely popularise the building of anti-corruption institutions and encourage people from all walks of life and socio-political organisations to engage in international efforts to combat corruption, he said.

Vietnam expects to draw on experience from the assessment of the work against corruption to raise the effectiveness and quality of future activities in the field, he added.

The processing of compiling the report is important for finalising legal mechanisms and tools for fighting corruption, while technical assistance will be proposed for the implementation of the UN Convention and to serve the government’s management in the field, the seminar was told.

Participants, who included representatives from several foreign embassies and international organisations in Hanoi, were briefed on mechanisms for the implementation of the Convention and methods to finalise the draft report.

Nine ministries and relevant sectors were involved in completing the draft report which has been sent to State agencies, universities and social organisations for ideas and feedback.
