Two severe COVID-19 patients make full recovery
VOV.VN - The Central Hospital of Tropical Diseases discharged five novel coronavirus (COVID-19) patients on September 22, including two males who had also been suffering from underlying health issues.
The first case involves a 58-year-old man from Bac Giang province. He was hospitalised on August 14 and diagnosed with several underlying illnesses, including hypertension.
The patient was in critical condition on August 24, with 90% of his lungs damaged. He then required the use of a ventilator or ECMO support in order to properly circulate oxygen throughout his body.
Fortunately, after receiving treatment for four days, the man could breath himself without requiring the assistance of a breathing device.
The other severe case involves a 72-year-old male patient from Hai Duong province. The elderly man had been transported to the Hai Duong General Hospital on August 30 before testing positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus on September 1. He was later transferred to the Central Hospital of Tropical Diseases in order to receive specific treatment for COVID-19.
Upon being admitted to the hospital, he was immediately diagnosed with acute respiratory infection caused by COVID-19. In addition, the patient had also previously suffered a number of underlying illnesses, such as an enlarged prostate and neck herniated disc.
After eight days of receiving invasive mechanical ventilation treatment, the condition of his lungs began to improve. Following this, the patient began to respond well to treatment and went on to test negative for the virus three times, therefore meeting the criteria for release.
Since July 25, the northern region has recorded four severe COVID-19 cases, with three of them going on to make a full recovery from the virus.
The final severe case is now in stable health condition, although he still has to undergo several tests for the virus in order to meet the relevant criteria for release.
