Archaeologists from the Institute of Archeology have uncovered evidence that prehistoric man lived in the mountain range of Pu Ca in northern Cao Bang province approximately 7,000-8,000 years ago.

Dr. Trinh Nang Chung said his team has recovered over 400 artefacts from Nguom Vai cave, including primitive tools such as hoes, axes, knives and pestles, mostly made from stone. They also found fragments of skulls and teeth in a ground layer that also contained sharpening tools.

The 500 sq m cave is to undergo further large-scale excavation in the future.
