Seminar discusses Halal industry development
VOV.VN - Measures aimed at producing and exporting products to the international halal market, as well as key information to further promote the sustainable development of the Vietnamese halal industry took centre stage at a seminar held on December 21 in Hanoi, with the participation of experts and representatives from a number of countries, organisations, and busine
Upon addressing the event, Dr. Ha Minh Hiep, acting general director of the Vietnam Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality (STAMEQ), said he hopes domestic businesses move to optimise the “keys” provided at the conference as a way of promoting the country’s integration into the international halal industry. Indeed, countries can depend on these keys as a way of being confident to invest in the Vietnamese halal industry.
Malaysian Ambassador in Vietnam Dato' Tan Yang Thai said that the halal industry is closely attached to religious practices, thereby making it difficult for a non-Muslim country like Vietnam to approach.
However, he highlighted Australia as an example of a non-Muslim country which has successfully developed its own halal industry, with the diplomat advising the Vietnamese side to be confident to further develop this sector.
Tran Quoc Dung, director of the Vietnam Certification Centre (QUACERT), said that the conference demonstrates the Vietnamese Government’s serious attention to the development of the halal market as a means of serving Muslim countries.
He expressed his hopes that the seminar will help boost the co-operation efficiency among parties in order to serve the Muslim community in Vietnam and the wider world, thereby paving the way for the halal industry’s further development locally.
Participants at the event discussed a wide range of issues related to the halal economy, culture, and the potential and opportunities that exist for Vietnam, as well as the halal standard system and the orientations for the building of standards for the Vietnamese halal industry.
They also gave opinions on new measures aimed at strengthening ties whilst making full use of international resources in a bid to increase Vietnamese firms’ capacity to engage in production and supply chains of halal products and services worldwide. This is along with design development orientations for the comprehensive and sustainable growth of the Vietnamese halal industry.
Within the framework of the conference, the QUACERT and the Institute for Africa and Middle East Studies signed a memorandum of understanding on co-operation in popularizing knowledge, standards, and certification services and international collaboration in the halal industry among relevant organizations, businesses, students, and agencies.
