The Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) should pay special attention to strengthening its supervisory role and participating in the building of the Party and the State, said State President Nguyen Minh Triet.

Addressing the VFF Central Committee’s second meeting (seventh tenure) in Ho Chi Minh City on January 27, Mr Triet asked the VFF to concentrate on diversifying forms of mobilisation so as to mobilize the entire people into various movements to strengthen the country and make it more prosperous.

VFF chapters at all levels should work to promote the people’s rights as well as their wider engagement in building the Party and the State and in diplomatic activities, he said.

During their two-day meeting, participants are scheduled to review the VFF’s action programme in 2009, outline a new programme for 2010, and pass a draft for operational regulations of the VFF Central Committee, the Presidium and the VFF Central Committee’s Standing Board.

The President of the VFF Central Committee, Huynh Dam, requested that the action programme for 2010 should help maximise the VFF’s role and influence in the country’s upcoming development phase.

In 2009, the VFF raised more than VND974 billion from its “for the poor” movement, which was used to build and repair 124,000 houses for needy households. It also joined hands with the State and other social funds to build nearly 60,000 houses for disadvantaged people in the country’s 62 poor districts.

Apart from that, the VFF launched a charitable movement from which it raised nearly VND5 trillion for the poor.
