Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has urged all local authorities to intensify their efforts in combating drug related crimes, as a new four-month anti-drug crackdown is soon to take place across the country.

Under a PM’s decision issued on May 14 to launch the drive, as from May 26, local authorities are entitled to investigate, check and inspect all entertainment facilities, particularly restaurants, hotels and bars in order to detect drug-related criminal activity.

The PM assigned the Public Securities Ministry, in collaboration with all local Departments of National Defence and Finance, and relevant agencies, to target their joint action towards hot spots and border areas.

The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs will be in charge of issues related to detoxification and post-detoxification. Meanwhile, the Health Ministry will instruct the application of new medical treatments and rehabilitation methods to drug addicts.

The government leader also urged the Ministry of Education and Training to beef up the dissemination of information about the need to prevent and control drug addition among adolescences.
