Ho Chi Minh City will focus on accelerating the disbursement of official development assistance (ODA) funds, considering it one of its socio-economic development measures for the second quarter of this year.

The measure was discussed at a meeting of the Municipal Party Committee Executive Board which took place in the city on April 10-11.

During the meeting, Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee Nguyen Minh Triet urged branches and agencies to further strengthen the management of urban areas, planning-construction, and ODA funds. Branches and agencies are also required to actively work to prevent corruption, negative behaviour and wastefulness and take concrete measures to reduce crime and ensure social security and order, he added.

Other socio-economic development solutions set forth at the meeting include continuing 11 tourism projects, developing the real estate market, implementing industrial and agricultural restructuring and executing urgent national and municipal plans on bird flu prevention.

The meeting also approved five projects and programmes for the 2006-2010 period, namely the programmes on economic restructuring assistance, housing, administrative reform, bureaucracy remediation, corruption and waste prevention and projects on a high technology park and Thu Thiem urban area.
