With the care of doctors and nurses at Da Nang hospital, 33 fishermen picked up and brought ashore by the rescue ships recovered and asked to leave the hospital on May 24.

According to the Office of the National Committee for Search and Rescue, at least 10 boats were sunk by Typhoon Chanchu, 198 fishermen left in distress, among them 20 dead and 178 alive. Four vessels have been still missing including DNa 6120, DNa 6018, DNa 90247, DNa 7115.


The National Committee for Search and Rescue also said rescue forces have had contact with many vessels in the affected areas. The Committee also sent two more navy ships to join in the search and rescue mission. Taiwan also sent several vessels
to help Vietnam in the search for the victims. Currently, 19 boats with 430 fishermen on board are returning to port.

Director of the Da Nang Health Department Trinh Luong Tran said 13 out of 15 dead bodies brought to Da Nang on May 23 were identified. 

The same day, local authorities in Da Nang sent condolences to the victims’ families and organised funeral services for them.


Seven out of 86 fishermen caught in the typhoon lost their lives and their bodies were brought ashore for funeral services in Binh Minh commune, Thang Binh district, Quang Nam province.


Local authorities have called for further relief to help the victims’ families quickly stabilise their daily lives and production activities.
