Tropical depression in East Sea likely to develop into typhoon

VOV.VN - Tropical low pressure currently the East Sea is likely to strengthen into a typhoon and affect coastal provinces from Quang Ninh to Binh Thuan, according to predictions made by the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.

Forecasters state that at 7am on July 31, the tropical depression was located approximately 160km to the east of the Hoang Sa archipelago, also known as the Paracel islands.

Over the course of the next 24 hours, the tropical depressions is expected to move west and north-west at speeds of between 10km and 15km per hour, with the weather pattern then likely to strengthen into a typhoon.

The next 48 hours will likely see the typhoon move northwest at speeds of between 10km and 15km per hour, with the eye of the storm being located in the Gulf of Tonkin and the strongest winds close to its centre reaching between 60km and 75km per hour.

In line with this forecasts, the Central Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and National Committee for Disaster Response and Search and Rescue has sent an urgent telegram, requesting that localities ​​from Quang Ninh to Binh Thuan, in addition to provinces in the North, the North Central region, the Central Highlands, and the South, brace for the upcoming storm.

These localities have been asked to regularly provide updated information on the storm and inform various fishing vessels operating at sea to seek safe shelter, ensure the safety of dams and other downstream areas, in addition to preparing rescue vehicles and forces in order to deal with any scenarios that emerge due to the impact of the impending storm.
