COVID-19: 852 new cases recorded, daily caseload rises to 2,301

VOV.VN - Vietnam has recorded an additional 849 locally transmitted and three imported cases in 14 cities and provinces nationwide during the past six hours, thus raising its daily count to 2,301.

Most of the locally transmitted cases were documented in quarantine or lockdown areas in southern localities, the Ministry of Health said in its 06.00pm COVID-19 update on July 13. .

Ho Chi Minh City took the lead, registering 546 new cases over six hours, followed by Binh Duong 186, Long An 49 Dong Thap 19, Can Tho 5, An Giang 4, Tra Vinh 3, and Kien Giang 3.  

Elsewhere 15 cases were recorded in Phu Yen, eight in Hung Yen, six in Hanoi, four in Da Nang, and one in Bac Giang.

Meanwhile, three Vietnamese people crossing Moc Bai international border gate in Tay Ninh that borders Cambodia have tested positive during the past six hours.

According to the MoH, the fresh coronavirus outbreak has shown signs of waning in the north, but new cases are surging in southern and central regions.

Many cases were closely linked to returnees from HCM City, who had been labelled as COVID-19 patients.

Data from the MoH show Vietnam has detected 2,301 cases from 06.00am July 12 to 06,00pm July 13. HCM City, the largest coronavirus hotspot, registered 1,797 cases alone, followed by Binh Duong 186, Dong Thap 31 and Ba Ria – Vung Tau 27.

This is the second time the daily count in Vietnam has surpassed the 2,000 case mark, reaching more than 2,300. On July 12, the MoH announced 2,383 new infections recorded in 24 hours. 

As of 06.00pm July 13 Vietnam has documented 30,985 new cases during the fresh outbreak in 58 cities and provinces and a total of 34,500 cases since January 2020.

As many as 9,553 patients have recovered from the disease, and 130 patients have died of COVID-19 and other underlying illnesses.

More than 4 million doses of the vaccine have been administered nationwide, with 280,367 people fully receiving two shots.
