A delegation from the US Department of Labour met with its Vietnamese counterpart in Hanoi on October 22 for a dialogue on a wide range of labour issues, including policy, labour relations, human resource development and social insurance.

The US delegation was led by deputy undersecretary for international labour affairs at the Department of Labour Charlotte Ponticelli, and Vietnam’s delegation by the Deputy Minister for Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, Huynh Thi Nhan.

The US guests spoke highly of Vietnam ’s efforts to implement transparent labour policies. Both sides expressed their delight at positive developments in Vietnam-US ties partly thanks to the exchange of information on their laws and policies.

The meeting marks the fourth dialogue since the US Department of Labour and Vietnam’s Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs signed a Memorandum of Understanding in 2000.

The fifth dialogue is scheduled to take place in the US in 2008.
