First Book Day to be observed in Vietnam
(VOV) - Various activities will be held across the country from April 19-21 to celebrate Vietnam Book Day (April 21), according to the Ministry of Information and Communications.
A ceremony to announce the Prime Minister’s decision to observe the day will be held at Hanoi’s Ly Thai To Square on April 19.
Main venues for activities will be Ly Thai To square, the Temple of Literature (Van Mieu), and the Vietnam National Library.
A book street will be held in front of the State Bank of Vietnam and along the streets of Ngo Quyen and Dinh Le.
Books will be categorized in four themes, spanning Dien Bien Phu Victory, the homeland’s sea and islands, the 60th anniversary of Hanoi’s Liberation Day, and an introduction of Vietnam’s cultural heritage sites recognized by UNESCO.
Art performances will be given to introduce the country’s intangible cultural heritage examples such as Ca Tru (ceremonial singing) and Quan Ho (love duet) folk songs.
Talks on books and reading culture will be conducted at the Temple of Literature (Van Mieu) and the Vietnam National Library.
Audiences will have an opportunity to hold exchange with Vietnam’s leading writers, scholars and individuals who have made great contributions to the development of reading culture in Vietnam.
