A national symposium on crime control in the context of globalisation and international economic integration was held in Hanoi on September 14 by the Ministry of Public Security in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Truong Vinh Trong.

One year since Vietnam’s entry to the World Trade Organisation there has been a growing trend for crime related to foreign elements, hi-technology, money laundering, economic fraud, the securities market and women and child trafficking.

After winning WTO membership, Vietnam has implemented international commitments including those regarding crime control. However, crime control regulations in the legal system remain too general and have not yet been perfected.

Speaking at the seminar, Deputy PM Trong asked the police sector to devise solutions for preventing crime and resolve crime-related cases effectively. He also requested that the sector assist the Party and State work out crime control measures in line with the growing trend of international integration while assisting the Government in signing or revising legal documents and agreements on judicial aid, crime extradition and international cooperation in crime control.
