Vietnam wins another gold at Asian Weightlifting Championships 2022

VOV.VN - 19-year-old Quach Thi Tam clinched one gold, one silver, and one bronze medals on October 10 in the women’s 59kg category of the Asian Weightlifting Championships 2022 taking place in Bahrain.

Tam secured a gold medal after lifting a total of 93kg in snatch, and she succeeded in lifting 115kg in clean and jerk to finish third.

The young Vietnamese weightlifter went on to obtain a silver medal by lifting a total of 208kg, closely behind Chinese rival Long Xue who lifted a total of 209kg.

Tam made plenty of progress after competing in the Asian Youth & Junior Weightlifting Championships in Uzbekistan in July. The Lao Cai native failed to win any medals after lifting 89kg in snatch, 111kg in clean and jerk, and 200kg in total.

Meanwhile, her teammate Hoang Thi Duyen ranked fourth in the women’s 59kg category in Bahrain, with 90kg in snatch, 109kg in clean and jerk, totaling 199kg overall.

So far Vietnamese athletes have successfully brought home six gold medals at the Asian Weightlifting Championships 2022.

Gold medals went to Nguyen Tran Anh Tuan in clean and jerk of the men’s 61kg weight category and Lai Gia Thanh in snatch in the men’s 55kg, and Khong My Phuong in snatch of the women’s 45kg.

The 2022 Asian Weightlifting Championships is currently getting underway in Manama, Bahrain, from October 6 to October 16.
