Vietnam has been actively cooperating with the international community in the fight against cyber crime, said Nguyen Phuong Nga, spokeswoman of the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry.

She told a regular press briefing on August 11 that the Vietnamese government attaches great importance to information security and efforts to ensure internet security.

Asked about Internet Security Firm McAfee Inc’s report that Vietnam is among the world’s 72 organizations and governments most attacked by hackers to steal data, Ms Nga affirmed that Vietnam is highly concerned with the McAfee report and has specific legal stipulations to protect information and ensure cyber safety.

“On June 10, 2011, the Prime Minister issued a decree on strengthening activities to ensure digital information safety,” she said. “Relevant Vietnamese agencies have also promulgated many documents that guide the efforts to maintain security for the country’s electronic information system.”

Regarding the question as to whether the human rights stand between Vietnam, the US, and EU affects economic cooperation between these parties, the spokeswoman confirmed human rights are respected in Vietnam, enshrined in the country’s constitution, and ensured in reality. Vietnam has made considerable progress in this field, which is internationally recognized, she said.

According to Ms Nga, the relations between Vietnam, the US, and the EU have positively developed in many fields for the benefit of all parties. She added that the remaining differences in the human rights issue will be solved on the basis of straight dialogues and mutual understanding and respect.
