Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone begins Vietnam visit

VOV.VN - Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone arrived in Hanoi on January 6 morning, beginning a two-day official visit to Vietnam where he will co-chair the 46th Meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee.

This is Siphandone’s first visit to Vietnam after he was elected Prime Minister of Laos on December 30, 2022.

Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is scheduled to host the welcoming ceremony for the Lao PM and the two leaders will then hold talks at the Government headquarters, and witness the signing ceremony of a number of cooperation documents between ministries, agencies and localities of the two countries.

President Vo Van Thuong and National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue will receive the Lao Prime Minister.

During the visit, the two PMs will co-chair the 46th Meeting of the Vietnam - Laos Intergovernmental Committee, and attend the Vietnam-Laos Investment Cooperation Forum.

The Lao PM will also take part in a number of other activities in Hanoi.

Vietnam currently has 241 investment projects in Laos with a total registered capital of US$5.47 billion, retaining its third position among foreign investors in the country. As of October 2023, two-way trade turnover reached more than US$1.3 billion, of which Vietnamese exports to Laos hit US$441.9 million.
