Vietnamese badminton player wins ticket to Paris Olympics

VOV.VN - Female badminton player Nguyen Thuy Linh has become the seventh Vietnamese athlete to qualify for the Paris Olympics 2024 competition in France this summer.

She is ranked 17th out of a total 35 global players with 48,350 points, meeting the criteria laid down by the Badminton World Federation (BWF).

The upcoming Olympics marks the second time that Thuy Linh will represent Vietnam at the global competition.

Another Vietnamese athlete, swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang has also qualified for the competition for the second time.

Both Thuy Linh and Huy Hoang previously competed at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 in Japan. Huy Hoang exited the Tokyo Olympics after failing to make it past the first round in the men's 1500 m freestyle swimming race.

Meanwhile, Thuy Linh fell short of a earning a spot in the women’s singles. She completed the group stage campaign in second place and had to bid farewell to her Olympic journey.

Later the girl finished as the runner-up in the 2024 German Open, earning an additional 5,950 points in the world rankings.

So far, seven athletes have already qualified for the Olympic Games, namely Nguyen Thi That in cycling, Trinh Thu Vinh and Le Thi Mong Tuyen in shooting, Nguyen Huy Hoang in swimming, Vo Thi Kim Anh in boxing, Trinh Van Vinh in weightlifting, and Nguyen Thuy Linh in badminton.
