HCM City pledges to remove bottlenecks for foreign businesses

VOV.VN - Ho Chi Minh City has pledged to remove hurdles faced by foreign firms in terms of administrative procedures, transport infrastructure, and tourism development, said Pham Van Mai, chairman of the municipal government.

He made the commitment during talks between the southern city’s leaders and representatives from foreign businesses on February 22.

During the event, representatives of the European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (EuroCham) expressed a keen desire for the city to change the long-term visa mechanism for foreigners, remove procedures for extending work permits, as well as promoting digital transformation to simplify cumbersome administrative procedures endured by firms.

The Eurocham representative also recommended that the city launch high-value products, increase the localisation of the investment supply chain, accelerate investment in transport infrastructure, and move to strengthen regional linkages whilst easing traffic congestion at airports and seaports.

In response to the queries put forward by enterprises, Mai suggested that the municipal Department of Industry and Trade seek to shorten the time in which administrative procedures are carried out to facilitate businesses’ operations in the city.

Mai also revealed that the southern metropolis is striving to strengthen the expansion of regional linkages, which will be completed by 2030.

To ease congestion at Tan Son Nhat International Airport, he said the city has requested the Ministry of Transport get involved in a bid to try and improve infrastructure in the airport area.

“The construction of terminal 3 is anticipated to handle domestic flights, thus helping to ease pressure on T1 that is currently overloaded and to improve service quality,” he said.

Ho Chi Minh City will work alongside the Ministry of Transport in the first quarter of the year to accelerate the construction process, hoping construction of the terminal will be completed by the end of 2024, he assured.
