Iran desires to further strengthen ties with Vietnam

VOV.VN -Speaker of the Parliament of Iran Ali Ardeshir Larijani has affirmed his nation’s determination to further promote the ties of friendship and cooperation between the two legislative bodies, the two States and people of Vietnam and Iran.

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on April 16 hosted a reception for Speaker of the Parliament of Iran Ali Ardeshir Larijani in Hanoi, during which Ali Larijani expressed his great admiration for President Ho Chi Minh and the Vietnamese people in the past struggles for national independence and freedom.

The Iranian parliamentary leader praised the achievements Vietnam has recorded over recent years as well as its regional and international role while believing that under the clear-sighted leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), the Vietnamese people will reap even greater achievements in the cause of national construction and development.

Ali Larijani also briefed the Party chief on the situation in Iran and in the region, and the outcomes of the working sessions with Vietnamese leaders.

He suggested the two sides should capitalize on major opportunities and potential to promote cooperation and development in the future and affirmed Iran’s readiness to cooperate with Vietnam in the fields of petrochemicals, mining, tourism, aviation, pharmaceuticals, security, national defence, and banking.

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong showed his elation at the increasingly consolidated relations between the two nations and congratulated the Iranian people on its success in their political stabilization, socio-economic development an strengthened position in the region and in the world.

The Party and State of Vietnam have steadfastly pursued an external policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, cooperation, development, diversification and multi-lateralization of foreign relations on the basis of respect for fundamental principles of international law, equality and mutual benefit, Trong told his guest.

The Party leader said he wishes to foster the traditional friendship and cooperation with Iran, and asked both sides to enhance economic, trade and investment relations in line with their strengths and potential.

The two sides need to continue working closely at regional and international forums, intensify the exchange of delegations and exchange activities in culture, sports, education, training and tourism, thus delivering practical benefits to the Vietnamese and Iranian people, and contributing to regional and global peace and development, he said.

At the reception, the Speaker of the Parliament of Iran invited General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to visit Iran in the future and his invitation was graciously accepted.

At a reception for Speaker of the Parliament of Iran Ali Ardeshir Larijani the same day in Hanoi, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc highlighted his visit as an event of great significance on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations (1973 - 2018).

PM Phuc said Vietnam always attaches importance to the traditional friendship with Iran and highly appreciated the strengthening of cooperation between the two law-making bodies as well as cooperation proposals made by Ali Ardeshir Larijani, adding that that these proposals are fully conformable to cooperation orientations between the two countries.

The PM suggested the two countries’ ministries and sectors should soon carry out cooperation orientations with specific measures focusing on tourism, minerals and oil and gas in order to elevate bilateral trade turnover to US$2 billion in the time to come.

He asked Iran to advocate Vietnam’s candidacy for the UN Security Council from 2020-2021.

“Vietnam and Iran should strengthen the exchange of high-level delegations, boost closer coordination in organizing celebratory activities regarding the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations, thereby stepping up cooperation in a multitude of fields.

Vietnam also expects Iran to augment its cooperation in areas of Iran’s strengths such as sea transport, port construction, and support industry,” the government leader said.

He asked the central banks of Vietnam and Iran to work together on ways to unlock bottlenecks in payment between the two sides, thus facilitating trade activities.

For his part, Speaker of the Parliament of Iran Ali Ardeshir Larijani said his country wants to foster comprehensive partnership with Vietnam, noting that the two countries’ celebration of the 45th anniversary of their diplomatic ties (1973-2018) this year will open up new opportunities for both nations to further expand the bilateral relations.

The Parliament of Iran has recently adopted a master plan for the country’s development over the next five years which incentivised foreign investment in the fields of oil and gas, petrochemistry, liquefied petroleum gas and agriculture, Ali Ardeshir Larijani said.

Iran wishes to cooperate with Vietnam in these areas along with information technology, cyber-security and environmental protection, he said while assured that Iran is ready to offer all optimal conditions for Vietnamese businesses to invest in his country.

He suggested opening a direct air route and simplifying visa procedures to boost tourism towards raising two-way trade to US$2 billion. Closer finance and banking cooperation is crucial for boosting bilateral trade, he noted.
