39 remains of Vietnamese war veterans found in Cambodia

VOV.VN - Vietnamese Team K72, under the jurisdiction of the southern province of Binh Phuoc’s Military Command which is responsible for repatriating the remains of the Vietnamese soldiers who died in Cambodia, unearthed the remains of 39 martyrs after a one-month search.

The search was conducted as part of the team’s activities in Kratie and Kampong Thom provinces of Cambodia during the 2022 to 2023 dry season.

At present, only one of the remains has been identified, with the other identities of the remains remaining unknown.

As part of the occasion, K72 team also provided free medical checkups for the poor in the locality and presented motorbikes to local people who significantly contributed to the joint search and collection of martyrs' remains over the years.

The K72 team initially began their search for the remains of Vietnamese soldiers in Cambodia on November 7. According to the scheduled, the team are due to end the first phase of the 2022 to 2023 period on January 6, 2023.

Moving forward, the remains are expected to be repatriated and then re-buried at the martyrs’ cemetery in Binh Phuoc province.

After more than two decades of performing its task, K72 has brought home the remains of nearly 2,700 martyrs.
