Hanoi blood donation programme aims for 3,000 blood units

VOV.VN -A blood donation programme themed “Giot hong tri an” (Pink Drops of Appreciation) was held in Hanoi on July 14, in the aim of collecting at least 3,000 blood units.

The event is part of the “Hanh Trinh Do” (Red Journey) nationwide blood donation campaign.
Starting on June 13, the campaign has been held in 26 cities and provinces across the country.
It is designed to raise public awareness of the need for blood donations to reduce shortages during summer, and provide information about thalassemia - a genetic blood disorder that can lead to heart failure and liver problems.
To date, more than 42,000 blood units have been collected during the one-month campaign.
Thousands of Hanoian volunteers join the event.
Director of the National Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion (NIHBT), Bach Quoc Khanh, says the amount of blood units collected during the campaign will satisfy the needs for treatment until August at least.
He adds that the collected blood units not only contribute to ensuring a blood supply for emergency situations and treatment in the local areas during the summer but also helps maintain the stockpile of blood throughout the country.
“Since the first Red Journey in 2013 by the National Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation and the National Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion, thousands of patients’ lives have been saved due to nearly 75,000 blood units being donated over the past four years.”
