Large-scale counterfeit money ring busted in Hanoi

VOV.VN - Police operating in Hanoi have stated that they have successfully busted a large-scale counterfeit money ring and arrested seven suspects involved in the group.

Accordingly, the police arrested and prosecuted Hynh Thi Bup of the southern province of Kien Giang, Dang Thi Thuy Van of Ho Chi Minh City, and Dinh Xuan Tien of Hanoi, for the crime of storing, transporting, and circulating counterfeit money.

Nguyen Tien Quan of Hanoi and Tran Dang Quang of the central province of Thua Thien Hue have been prosecuted for storing and transporting counterfeit money, while Nguyen Van Hung of the central city of Da Nang and Dam Mai Tat Dat of the Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu have been prosecuted for storing counterfeit money.

The ring was detected after police discovered Dinh Xuan Tien using counterfeit money to purchase goods. Searching the suspect on the spot, the officers went on to discover a further US$102.30 of counterfeit money.

Tien later confessed that he had bought the illegal banknotes from Van.

Expanding the case, the police arrested six other suspects and seized US$100,000 of counterfeit money and other fake currencies such as Singapore dollars and Turkmenistan manat with a total conversion value of more than VND13 billion.
