Vietnamese midfielder among stars Australian website touts for A-League
Australian sports website The World Game has named Luong Xuan Truong among the stars that A-League clubs should sign up next season.
It said, "One of the most talented midfielders in Vietnam and Asia has already had a try overseas but didn't get much game time in the Republic of Korea. That was more down to the lack of imagination among local coaches than any failing on the 25-year-old's part."
Truong joined the Republic of Korea's club Incheon United in 2015 on a two-year loan deal worth $300,000, becoming the first Vietnamese player to play in the K League when he made his debut in May 2016.
He moved to another K League club, Gangwon FC, at the end of 2016, and to Thai League club Buriram United in 2019. He is now playing for Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) in V. League 1.
"A silky presence in the middle who reads the game and can control the tempo, the time in East Asia will not only have helped Xuan Truong grow on and off the pitch, it should make a determined player that bit more determined to show what he can do," the website said.
He could bring "intelligence, technique and vision to the middle of the park" and the best fit for him would be Newcastle Jets, who finished eighth in the league this season.
"Newcastle Jets have lost one playmaker to Asia in the shape of Dmitri Petratos, so looking to Asia for a replacement makes perfect sense."
Truong is a product of the HAGL - Arsenal JMG Academy. He made his national team debut in 2015 and won the 2018 AFF Cup with Vietnam.
