Vietnam seeks stronger co-operation between UN and regional organisations

VOV.VN - As an active member of ASEAN and the UN Security Council (UNSC), the country will continue to place importance on collaborating with the UN and regional organizations, especially in trying to prevent conflict, and is willing to co-ordinate with the wider international community to achieve a better and more stable world.

Deputy Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung made the statement during a high-level open debate of the UNSC held virtually on January 6, stressing that the nation has a deep understanding of the threat that instability poses to peace.

According to the Vietnamese diplomat, maintaining international peace and security in the contemporary world requires a comprehensive, inclusive, and systematic approach at all stages of peace processes, whilst they must also feature the involvement of all stakeholders.

Furthermore, the root cause of issues must be solved in a comprehensive manner rather than individually, he said, adding that countries and nations facing instabilities must be provided with adequate support in response to global challenges.

As a key part of maintaining international peace and security, the UNSC should pursue a comprehensive and inclusive approach moving forward. This should be done whilst aiming to maintain solidarity and resilience, whilst strengthening co-operation with other UN agencies and regional organisations to make positive changes in the field.

The multilateral system, with the UN at its core, should represent an important mechanism for co-ordinating efforts at a global level, he said, adding that state actors must enhance their commitments to abiding by the UN Charter and international law.
