PM encourages Vietnam-Costa Rica trade ties

(VOV) - Vietnam and Costa Rica should negotiate and sign agreements on double tax avoidance and investment protection to increase bilateral trade.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung made the proposal while receiving Costa Rican Minister of Foreign Affairs and Worship Jose Enrique Castillo Barrantes in Hanoi on October 28.

He also proposed Costa Rica help promote economic, trade and investment cooperation between Vietnam and other Latin American nations.

Both countries need to maintain their political consultations and further support each other at multilateral forums, Dung told his Costa Rican diplomat.

He highly valued the result of talks between Barrantes and Vietnamese Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh and believed Barrantes’ visit will contribute to strengthening friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

For his part, Barrantes expressed deep condolences over the recent passing of revered General Vo Nguyen Giap and said his visit aims to foster cooperation in various areas, especially in economics, trade and investment.

He said during the visit both sides discussed scores of measures to increase bilateral cooperation and underlined the need to sign agreements on double tax avoidance, investment protection and education and culture.

Costa Rica is willing to support Vietnam in strengthening relations with other Latin American nations, he assured Dung.
