National Assembly successfully ends mid-year session
VOV.VN - Deputies to the National Assembly concluded their 23-day mid-year sitting in Hanoi on June 24, successfully completing the entire working programme.
They passed eight bills, including those on protection of consumer rights; bidding; pricing; electronic transactions; cooperatives; civil defense, and people’s public security.
Notably, the deputies passed a bill that amends and supplements some articles of the Law on exit and entry of Vietnamese citizens and the Law on entry, exit, transit and residence of foreigners in Vietnam. Accordingly, they agreed to extend the e-visa validity to 90 days for foreign citizens from the current 30 days.
The deputies also approved three resolutions, including a resolution on holding a vote of confidence for ranking officials elected or appointed by the National Assembly or local People’s Councils; and a resolution on piloting new development policies for Ho Chi Minh City.
The National Assembly debated the Land Law (revised) that has received more than 12 million opinions from people of all social strata, and eight other bills on credit institutions (amended); citizenship identification (amended), real estate business (amended), housing law (amended), water resources (amended), telecommunications (amended), management and protection of national defense works and military zones, and forces engaging in local social order and security protection.
During the sitting, the deputies carried out supreme supervision over the mobilization, management and use of resources for COVID-19 prevention and control, as well as the implementation of policies and laws on grassroots-level health and preventive health care.
They acknowledged the engagement of the whole political system and people from all social strata, as well as the enthusiastic support and assistance of international friends in the COVID-19 combat, helping Vietnam control the pandemic and begin the recovery process. They also pointed out shortcomings and weaknesses in the management and use of resources for COVID-19 control that need to be addressed soon.
The deputies spent two and a half days questioning Government members over issues of voter concern in the fields of labour-social affairs, ethnicity, science - technology, and transport.
They also spent much time examining government reports on the implementation of socio-economic development and budgetary tasks. They requested that the government improve the forecast capacity, and introduce quick and appropriate policy responses, as well as practical, specific and highly feasible operating solutions, towards the ultimate goal of maintaining macroeconomic stability, controlling inflation, and strengthening the economy’s resilience to cope with negative external impacts.
