AMS 8 reaps great success

The eighth Asia Media Summit (AMS 8) in Hanoi has achieved significant success that has benefited not only AIBD, its member broadcast organizations, partners and other media stakeholders across the globe, but also Vietnam and its people.

Addressing the closing ceremony, Director of Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD), Yang Binyuan affirmed that the summit has achieved remarkable progress for its members and partners around the world.

He said AMS 8 provided more than 600 delegates with a platform to share challenges and opportunities in the digital technologies which face both broadcasting and television and expressed his delight at the results of the summit which helps improve mutual understanding and offered an opportunity for Vietnam to share its cultural identities and Vietnamese people’s hospitality to foreign delegates.

AMS 8 has promoted cooperative relations among media agencies in the region, he said.

General Director of Radio the Voice of Vietnam Vu Van Hien said that although this is the first time VOV has hosted the major event, VOV has proved that it could organize major events in a professional manner.

Thepchai Yong, Managing Director, Thai Public Broadcasting Service (TPBS) which will host the ninth AMS in 2012 said that the event has successfully concluded thanks to thorough preparations by VOV and AIBD. He stressed that VOV has elevated the event to a new level and drew valuable lessons for Thailand for hosting the event by 2012.

AIBD foreign and local participants from 50 countries and regions participated in the two-day conference that served a platform for multisectoral and multidimensional dialogue on the challenges and opportunities the digital world offer broadcasters.

AIBD and VOV expressed great satisfaction on the results of the Summit, highlighted by its positive contribution towards raising awareness and understanding among broadcasters of new and innovative ideas as well as opportunities offered by technological advances and multiple delivery platforms such as the web, mobile, and social media that will expand their audience reach, address strong competition and improve their products and services as well as business returns.

Among participants, there was consensus that it was no longer business as usual for broadcasters as the battle for attention has become more intense than ever in the digital world.

The Summit also provided broadcasters with best practices from different parts of the world on how new content and new formats can be produced for multiple delivery platforms, how new and social media have contributed towards addressing crisis and development needs in the region and on pursuing strategies to manage change and enhance organizational and human resource performance in the digital world.

Another achievement was the opportunity to network with CEOs and other top officials of both private and broadcast organizations as well as development institutions across the globe that facilitated exchange of knowledge and expertise and prospective collaboration in content sharing and training.

The relevant theme and topics covering technology, content production and distribution, organizational performance, new media and social media together with the professional way the Summit was managed, attracted some 400 foreign participants, mostly CEOS, Presidents and other leading digital stakeholders from all over the world and about 200 local media representatives.

AMS 8 also offered a platform for Vietnam and its people to showcase their efforts in the international integration process, enabling international delegates to better understand and appreciate the country’s rapid development and dynamism especially of media, and to share their warmth and hospitality, well appreciated by the Summit delegates.

For AIBD and its partners, the Summit served to foster a more meaningful relationship with broadcasters by identifying some of their urgent needs in capacity building, and pursuing specific responses to enhance competence and professionalism of their employees.
