Democracy, human rights consultation to prepare for IPU

(VOV) - A seminar took place on March 6 on the agenda to be discussed by the Standing Committee on Democracy and Human Rights at the 132nd General Assembly of Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU-132) 
IPU-132 scheduled to take place from March 8-April 1 in Hanoi.

The seminar is designed to consult government agencies, social organizations, scientists, researchers on a number of topics to be debated and adopted at the committee’s session.

In his speech, National Assembly (NA) Vice Chairman Uong Chu Luu said democracy and human rights are considered the universal values ​​of humanity which highly depend on political factors and economic conditions of each nation.

Promoting democracy and ensuring human and civil rights must be stipulated in the Constitution and laws and put in practice.

The activities of the IPU and its committee on democracy and human rights aim to improve the operational efficiency of parliaments in supervising the government initiatives, increasing legislative power and ensuring freedom and democracy towards peace and development, he said.
