A look back at Vietnam’s journey at the AFF U22 Championship

VOV.VN - The Vietnamese U22 national team achieved their best ever result following a third-place finish in the men’s football at the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) U22 Youth Championship in Cambodia. Let look back on their historic journey with images of the games from their five matches:

Vietnam beat the Philippines 2-1 in their opening match of the AFF U22 Championship in Cambodia.
The Philippines opened the scoring in the first half.
Thanks to goals from Tran Danh Trung and Le Minh Binh, the Vietnam U22 team was able to come from behind and record a big win against the Philippines.
Vietnam recorded their second win of the tournament in their next match, beating Timor Leste 4-0.
Tran Danh Trung was the man of the match with a 2 goal display.
Phan Thanh Hau and Le Xuan Tu scored a goal each in the 4-0 victory.
In the final match of the group stage, Vietnam play out a goalless draw with Thailand. This gave the Vietnam U22 the lead in Group A with a total of 7 points.
 
 
Next up in the semi-finals were Indonesia.
Throughout the tie, Vietnam U22s missed many scoring opportunities . Finally, Luthfi scored the only goal of the game for Indonesia in the 70th minute.
Overall, Vietnam came third at the AFF U22 Youth Championship after beating host nation Cambodia 1-0 on February 26.
 
Vietnam scored late as forward Le Xuan Tu ran on to a cross before directing his header into the far corner of the net in the 86th minute.
