Hanoi has actively promoted the development of the Red River delta and affirmed its leading position in the whole country in terms of growth, said Party Politburo member Truong Tan Sang.
Mr. Sang, who is also permanent member of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee (CPVCC) Secretariat, made these remarks at the June 23 working session with the Hanoi City Party Committee Standing Board on the five-year implementation of the Politburo’s Resolution on socioeconomic development and ensuring defence and security in the Red River delta until 2010 with vision for 2020.

He also asserted that Hanoi’s position is increasing on the international arena, stressing that the city is closely following all targets set out in the resolution.

Hanoi has made great contributions to the Red River delta and the entire country in not only tax revenues but also human resources and socio-cultural values, he said.

Mr. Sang also pointed out shortcomings and weaknesses that the city should overcome to achieve higher growth in the near future.

The Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi City Party’s Committee and Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen The Thao said that over the past five years the city had recorded an annual GDP growth of 10.73 percent with services up by 10.35 percent, industry-construction by 12.78 percent and agriculture by 2.62 percent.

The cooperation development ties between Hanoi and other Red River cities and provinces and the entire country have been consolidated and expanded to bring into play all internal resources and effectively tap the delta’s potentials and advantages, he added.
