Coal-fired power plant will not affect environment: Energy Ministry spokesman

The Ministry of Energy has confirmed that the coal-fired power plant in Krabi is using a new technology which certainly has no impact on the environment.

Energy Policy and Planning Office Director and Energy Ministry Thawarat Sutabutra said that the construction of a coal-fired power plant in Krabi district creates energy security for the southern region especially along the Andaman Sea coasts where there is no large power plant.

Thailand uses 70% of natural gas to generate electricity so the coal-fired power plant is the best way to minimize risks and reduce dependence on natural gas, he said.

He added that the coal-fired power plant would not affect the environment since the eco-friendly technologies would be applied to the plant’s operation.
