ASEAN Family Day in full swing in Hanoi

Staff members of embassies of ASEAN member states in Hanoi and their families joined a host of activities on August 25 within the framework of ASEAN Family Day 2018.

The event was co-organised by the Vietnam Ministry of Foreign Affairs and ASEAN Women's Circle of Hanoi (AWCH).

In his opening speech, Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung praised the AWCH’s initiative and effort to organise the event in celebration of 51st founding anniversary of the bloc and 3 years of the ASEAN Community establishment.

He said the occasion helps participants increase mutual understanding and consolidate solidarity and friendship among ASEAN members, while raising local public awareness about the ASEAN Community.

After the opening ceremony, nearly 200 participants cycled together across a 10-km distance to demonstrate their concerted strength, determination and mutual support, which are considered characteristics of Southeast Asian communities.

They then engaged in sport and musical exchanges, folk games, and a food festival. Of these activities, a knowledge contest, titled ‘future ASEAN ambassadors’, was a draw to young participants.

Ambassador Nguyen Nguyet Nga, honorary chairwoman of the AWCH, highlighted the meaning of ASEAN Family Day as an occasion to strengthen the bond among members of the ASEAN family and to pay tribute to the older generations who had laid the basis for the formation of the ASEAN Community.

She said she believed in ASEAN younger generation and encouraged them to promote the bloc spirit of solidarity, self-reliance, and innovation.
