Thailand, Laos sign MoU on border security

Governor of Thailand’s Nan province Suwat Promsuwan met with Governor of Laos’ Sainyabuli province Pongsawan Sidthawong to sign a Thai-Lao border security agreement to enhance border cooperation. 

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) is meant to promote the relationship between the two countries in terms of in socio-economy and culture, as well as to enhance immigration and customs services and crackdown on the smuggling of narcotics. 

Military and law enforcement personnel of both countries are to enforce borders and prevent land encroachment for criminal purposes, such as the smuggling of counterfeit goods, narcotics, weapons and natural resources, and human trafficking. 

The MoU will also facilitate joint efforts in law enforcement and border services.
