Kazakh President postpones visit to Vietnam

VOV.VN - President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has decided to postpone his official visit to Vietnam on June 11-13 due to a forest fire in Abay province.

President Tokayev said he would make the visit at another suitable time, according to a communique released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam.

The fire broke out on June 8 and has swept across 60,000 hectares of forest in Abay, eastern Kazakhstan.

This is is the largest forest fire in the world by area. The fire has left three rangers dead and 11 others missing.

Kazakhstan is a Central Asian country covering a total area of more than 2.7 million square kilometers and having a population of more than 19 million. This is an important transshipment center for goods by road from Asia to Europe.

Vietnam and Kazakhstan established diplomatic relations on June 29, 1992. Last year, the two countries celebrated 30 years of bilateral diplomacy.
