Huynh Nhu makes historic debut as first local female footballer to play abroad

VOV.VN - Vietnamese striker Huynh Nhu made her debut for Länk FC in their 1-0 win against Valadares FC on September 11 in the women’s first league in Portugal, making history by becoming the first Vietnamese female footballer to play abroad.

She joined the match in the 88th minute with Länk FC beating Valadares FC 1-0. The game had eight minutes added time, meaning the Tra Vinh-born girl spent about 10 minutes playing for her new team.

Nhu, 31, put in a good performance while looking comfortable on the ball in various situations as she passed the ball to her teammates and set up several quick counter-attacks.

She contributed to maintaining the 1-0 lead in favour of Länk FC until the end of the game.

Moving forward, Nhu will continue to train with Länk FC and hopes to feature in their next match played at 9 p.m. on September 18 (Hanoi time) in the second round of the Portuguese top women's league Liga BPI.

Nhu is one of the most prominent players in Vietnamese women's football. She is most notable for winning the Golden Ball award on four occasions and has also made several important contributions to the Vietnamese women's team, winning gold medals at the SEA Games in 2017, 2019, and 2022, along with the AFF Cup 2019 championship.

She is also the top scorer in history with 59 goals for the national side.

The upcoming 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup marks the first time that the Vietnamese national women’s football team, including captain Huynh Nhu, have progressed to the finals of the tournament.
