COVID-19: Daily infections fall to 10-month low of nearly 1,900

VOV.VN - Daily infections for May 14 fell by more than 300 cases compared to the previous day to 1,895, a record low over the past 10 months, according to a coronavirus update released by the Ministry of Health.

All the new infections were documented in Vietnam, with 1,585 cases diagnosed in the community, said the Ministry of Health.

Notably, none of the localities recorded 500 cases each nationwide. Hanoi capital that reported thousands of cases daily weeks ago confirmed just 489 cases, topping localities. It is followed by Nghe An (115), Quang Ninh (95), Vinh Phuc and Phu Tho (92) each.

In the south, Ho Chi Minh City, the largest and busiest metropolis in Vietnam, also only reported 45 cases. It plans to start offering fourth doses of COVID-19 vaccines to local residents next week

Localities that saw the number of infections decrease most compared to the previous day were Dak Lak (-114), Bac Ninh (-70), and Phu Tho (-28).

Meanwhile, localities that saw the number of infections rise most compared to the previous day were Lai Chau (+23), Ha Nam (+12), and Dak Nong (+12).

On average 2,589 cases were recorded in Vietnam daily in the past seven days.

The same day, the Ministry of Health announced an additional 5,563 patients recovering from the disease, and two more deaths.

At present, 338 patients are relying on mechanical ventilation and two patients are receiving extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), a sophisticated form of therapy that is used to save the lives of patients in critical condition.

As of 6pm on May 14, Vietnam has confirmed nearly 10.7 million infections, ranking 12th out of 227 countries and territories worldwide.

Of the total, more than 9.3 million patients have recovered, and nearly 43,065 patients have died of the virus and underlying illnesses.

As many as 216.7 million COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered nationwide.
