Local doctors save lives of severe COVID-19 patients
VOV.VN - Two severe COVID-19 patients, including one relying on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), have been successfully saved by doctors working at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases No. 2 in Hanoi.
Local health experts have held several national consultations to examine the best treatment for the severe cases. The pair had received ECMO after suffering from severe respiratory failure.
Meanwhile, nine other patients who require ventilators to assist them with breathing have also showed signs of recovery.
Most notably, doctors working at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases No. 2 also performed emergency surgery on a pregnant woman who had been infected with COVID-19, thereby saving the life of the woman and her baby.
As of May 27, Vietnam has successfully cured 2,881 COVID-19 patients, whilst a total of 45 patients have since died from the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the majority of whom had been suffering from a range of serious underlying health issues.
