Fake VND200,000 notes in circulation

Fake VND200,000 banknotes have been found in circulation in the market, the State Bank of Vietnam said in a statement on October 2.

Cotton banknotes to go out of circulation

The fake banknotes, though meticulously printed, are less durable and elastic than the real polymer notes, so users can still distinguish them by the naked eye and by slightly tearing the notes’ edges.

In addition, the fake notes are also easily distinguished because they are not printed with optically variable ink (OVI), which displays two distinct colours.

Those concerned should check the small transparent window on the notes to see if there is a hidden image on it. If so, the bill is authentic. One can also check the serial number. When exposed to ultraviolet light, the serial numbers on the fake bills do not produce the same luminescence as those on the real ones.
