Thai female cyclist wins first stage of Biwase Cup in Vietnam

VOV.VN - Maneephan Jutatip (Thailand) won the yellow jersey in the first stage of the 14th Binh Duong International Women’s Cycling Tournament, the Biwase Cup, on March 6.

On the opening day, the cyclists competed in the 92km-long route around the province. Jutatip topped the first stage after clocking a time of two hours 22 minutes 35 seconds, followed by Kasuga Watabe (Japan) and Nur Asyah Mohammad Zubir (Malaysia).

In the first race, Malaysia took the lead in the team category, followed by a team from Kazakhstan and Vinama Ho Chi Minh City of Vietnam.

In the white jersey category for young racer with the best performance, female Japanese cyclist Kasuga Watabe came first after surpassing Nguyen Thi Be Hong of Vietnam’s Dong Thap province.

Meanwhile, the orange jersey for the best Vietnamese athlete went to cyclist Tran Thi Phuong Dung of Vinama Ho Chi Minh City.

The cyclists will continue to compete in the second stage with a length of 160 km on March 7. They will depart from Binh Duong, travel through Phuoc Long in Binh Phuoc province, before reaching the finish line in ing Thu Dau Mot City of Binh Duong province.

The 14th Binh Duong International Women’s Cycling Tournament that is scheduled to take place from March 6 to 15 has attracted the participation of 11 domestic and nine foreign teams.

With a total length of 1,158 km, the female cyclists will compete in 10 stages, starting from Binh Duong and travelling through to Dong Nai, Lam Dong, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan, and Ba Ria-Vung Tau.

Individuals will compete for three jerseys, with the yellow jersey being given to the overall winner who will receive a cash prize of VND45 million, the green for the best sprinter with a cash prize of VND30 million, and the pink for Miss Biwase Cup with a cash prize of VND10 million.

Meanwhile, the winning team who secure the championship trophy will be awarded VND42 million. In addition, the organisers will give special gifts to disadvantaged children during the race.
