Govt orders all units to facilitate participants of King’s funeral

The government has instructed related authorities to provide convenience for public members participating in the royal funeral of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej at the Grand Palace.

In his capacity as head of the government’s command center for situation monitoring, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister’s Office Suwapan Tanyuwattana convened a meeting at Government House with concerned officials about the dissemination of information on the royal funeral and related functions. Among the attending officials was Government Spokesperson Lt Gen Sunsern Kaewkumnerd.

Mr Suwapan revealed that the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has been assigned the responsibility of facilitating mourners who wish to travel to Bangkok to take part in the royal funeral of His Majesty the King.

Traffic police will be in charge of managing traffic flow and alleviating any congestion. In the meantime, medical teams have been stationed around Sanam Luang ceremonial ground, with drinking water available for everyone free of charge.

In addition, Lt Gen Sunsern said the Prime Minister has ordered an increase in free bus services on 30 routes for those heading to the Grand Palace as well as strict regulation of motorcycle taxi fares.

The BMA has also been told to open Sanam Luang for mourners looking for a place to stay overnight.
