Female boxer wins fifth 2024 Paris Olympics ticket for Vietnam
VOV.VN - Female boxer Vo Thi Kim Anh became the fifth Vietnamese athlete to qualify for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics, scheduled to run from July 26 to August 11.
Anh was among six female Vietnamese boxers to compete in the Olympics' first world qualification tournament which took place in Italy’s Busto Arsizio.
In the women's 54kg category, she trounced competitors from Dominica and Hungary in the first and second qualifying matches.
The An Giang native then progressed through the semi-final round after defeating Islem Ferchichi of Tunisia 5-0 in the last-eight round on March 11.
With this good result, the 27-year-old boxer has officially qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The international qualification tournament which took place in Italy’s Busto Arsizio drew the participation of 633 boxers, including 233 women, from 113 countries and territories from February 29 to March 12. This large-scale event was held by the International Boxing Association (IBA) as part of the qualifiers for the Paris Olympics.
A total of 49 tickets to the Summer Games were presented to the successful fighters.
Kim Anh was the only Vietnamese athlete to win the ticket this time. Other Vietnamese fighters still have a chance to make the Olympics at the second world qualification tournament, due to be held in Bangkok, Thailand, from May 23 to June 3.
