NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue receives Cambodian PM Hun Manet

VOV.VN - National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue on December 11 hosted a reception for Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet who is in Hanoi for a two-day official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

Hue congratulated Cambodia on successfully organizing the 2023 parliamentary election in which Hun Manet was later elected Prime Minister of Cambodia. He expressed his belief that Hun Manet’s visit would contribute to elevating the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries to new heights.

Hun Manet for his part said this is his first visit to Vietnam in his capacity as Prime Minister of Cambodia and his first visit to an ASEAN member country after the new Cambodian government was formed, reaffirming Cambodia’s policy of strengthening relations with Vietnam. He spoke highly of the close and effective cooperation between the two countries’ legislative bodies, including between the Senate and National Assembly of Cambodia and the National Assembly of Vietnam over the years.

At the meeting, both host and guest expressed their joy at the positive development of the two countries’ traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation in all fields, including in economy and trade, noting two-way trade turnover hit a record high of more than US$10 billion last year. The two sides agreed to strengthen hard and soft connections between the two economies, including connecting highways and increasing the number of direct flights between the two countries.

Hue proposed that the Governments of the two countries continue to effectively implement signed agreements, especially the Vietnam-Cambodia border trade agreement, in order to facilitate the import and export of goods across the border, while maintaining and strengthening supply chains of strategic value.

With regard to border cooperation, the two leaders expressed hope that the two sides would continue to cooperate closely to build a stable and developed border.

Both host and guest also agreed that the two countries’ legislative bodies should continue to cooperate closely with each other both bilaterally and multilaterally, in sharing experiences in professional affairs, overseeing the implementation of signed agreements and increasing the prestige of both countries.

Hue said he expects that the Cambodian Government and Prime Minister Hun Manet personally will continue to pay attention and create favourable conditions for people of Vietnamese origin in Cambodia to do business, live stably and integrate well into their host community, and serve as a bridge for friendship between the two countries.

On this occasion, the top legislator sent his regards to King Norodom Sihamouni, Cambodian People’s Party Chairman Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Senate President Say Chhum, and National Assembly Chairwoman Khuon Sudary.
