37 new coronavirus cases bring total count to 546
VOV.VN - The Ministry of Health on July 31 afternoon confirmed a further 37 fresh cases of COVID-19, including 26 returning from pandemic-hit nations, three in Ho Chi Minh and eight in the central province of Quang Nam.
Most of the latest cases are also related to different hospitals based in the central city of Da Nang- the locality that has recorded the highest number of locally-transmitted infections so far with 104.
More than 53,767 people who had close contact with COVID-19 patients or returning from pandemic-hit areas are in quarantine across the nation, including 619 at hospitals and the remainders at concentrated facilities and their home.
Among the remaining cases in treatment, 14 cases have tested negative for the SARS-CoV-2 virus one or at least twice.
The same day, four further novel coronavirus (COVID-19) patients were discharged from hospital, taking the country’s overall number of recovered cases to 373.
The four patients will now be put into isolation to undergo a mandatory 14-day observation period to ensure that there is no possibility of the virus recurring or being transmitted among the wider community.
Meanwhile, the Health Ministry reported the first death relating to the COVID-19. The first fatality is a 70 year-old male patient who was a resident of Hoi An city of the central province of Quang Nam. He is known as patient 428, died of "myocardial infarction caused by chronic diseases of hypertension, heart failure, end-stage of chronic renal failure, complications of respiratory failure due to heart failure and COVID-19.
Vietnam has to date recorded a total of 546 cases of COVID-19, with 82 confirmed in a single day. As many as 302 cases returned home from abroad and were isolated immediately upon arrival.
